This policy covers C for CV (cforcv.com) — a resume and cover letter builder. It explains what personal data we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have over it. If you use C for CV without creating an account ("guest mode"), most of this simply does not apply to you, since almost nothing leaves your browser — see "Guest mode vs. a signed-in account" below.
What we collect
- Contact info you put on your resume: name, email, phone, location, website, LinkedIn/GitHub URLs, and an optional photo — whatever you choose to include.
- Resume content: work history, education, skills, languages, projects, and any custom sections you add.
- Cover letters: the letters you generate or write, including a hiring manager's name if you enter one from a job posting.
- Saved job postings: job descriptions you paste in — or a job posting URL you give us instead, which our server fetches on your behalf and converts into the same plain description text — to track an application or generate a tailored resume/cover letter against. We don't keep a copy of the original page, only the description text itself.
- Account info: if you sign in, your email address (email/password sign-in) or the name, email, and profile photo Google provides (Google sign-in).
Guest mode vs. a signed-in account
In guest mode, your resume lives only in your own browser's local storage — it never reaches our servers at all, unless you use one of the AI features described below, or later choose to sign in (at which point it syncs to your account). Signing in adds cloud storage (so your resumes are available on another device) and a few extra AI-guided writing tools. You can use C for CV fully in guest mode; signing in is optional.
How we use your information
To provide the service itself: rendering your resume, saving it, exporting it as a PDF or Word file, and — if you sign in — syncing it across your devices and letting you delete it on request. We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.
AI features and what data they process
Several features use a third-party AI service to generate suggestions: proofreading, stronger bullet/summary rewrites, job description keyword extraction (Job Match), resume tailoring to a specific posting, and cover letter drafting. What gets sent depends on the feature:
- Job Match and Tailor for a Job send only your resume's summary, work experience, and skills — never your name, email, phone, or address.
- Importing an existing resume (PDF/Word upload) sends the full extracted text to our AI provider so it can identify which parts are your name, contact details, experience, and so on — this is the one feature where your contact info does reach that provider, since separating it out is the point of that step.
- Proofreading, bullet rewriting, and cover letter drafting send only the specific text you asked it to work on (a bullet, a summary, a job description) — not your full resume.
AI suggestions are grounded only in what you've actually written or told it — the AI is instructed never to invent an employer, credential, or achievement, and every suggestion is something you choose to apply or ignore before it changes your resume. Our AI provider is based in the United States; where our processing involves transferring your data outside the EEA/UK, we put appropriate safeguards in place for that transfer.
Cookies and local storage
We do not use advertising or analytics cookies, and there is no tracking pixel on this site. We do use your browser's local storage to hold your resume data — for guests, that is the entire mechanism the app relies on to work at all; for signed-in users, it is a local cache that speeds up loading and lets guest work carry over if you sign in. It contains only the resume data described above, nothing else.
How long we keep your data
If you have an account, your data is kept for as long as your account exists, and deleted immediately when you delete your account (see "Your rights" below). Guest data never reaches our servers in the first place, so there is nothing for us to retain — it stays in your browser until you clear it or sign in.
Public share links
If you turn on "Anyone with the link can view" for a resume, anyone who has that link can view it without signing in. By default that includes your photo, email, phone, and location; a separate "Hide contact details" option lets you keep those fields out of the shared link entirely (your name and any professional links like LinkedIn or GitHub still show, so the resume stays attributable) — that redaction happens on our server before the page is ever sent to a viewer's browser, not just hidden in the display. Sharing is off by default and entirely your choice; you can turn it back off at any time, which stops the link from working.
Who we share data with
We use a small number of service providers (sub-processors) to run C for CV, and we don't share your data with anyone beyond them:
- Cloud hosting and database provider — hosting, authentication, and database storage for signed-in accounts.
- AI service provider — AI text processing for the features described above.
Data security
Data is encrypted both at rest and in transit across our infrastructure, and every account's data is only accessible to that account — enforced at the database level, not just in the app's interface.
Your rights
You can access and correct your data at any time simply by editing it in the app. You can export it as a PDF or Word document whenever you like. You can permanently delete your account and every resume, cover letter, and saved job tied to it from Account Settings — this cannot be undone. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to object to or restrict certain processing, and the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Children's privacy
C for CV is not directed at children and is not intended for use by anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update the effective date at the top of this page.
